"Living In the Flow" vs. Procrastinating

Updated: Feb 8

As spiritual and holistic people, we believe in the mind, body, and soul connection. We do not believe in hustle culture and we always talk about "living in the flow." Often, we understand that the Universe works in cycles and there is a time to act and a time to rest.

A question I recently had to ask myself was ...

  •  Am I living in the flow and waiting for the right moment?

  •  Or am I just procrastinating again?

There is a huge difference!

Procrastination very rarely has anything to do with laziness. It is actually a trigger from fear due to self-esteem issues or lack of clarity. It creates a freeze response in our minds and bodies.

Those who have ADHD or have issues with time will struggle with this even more. So it's also important to understand that procrastination has very little to do with delaying or postponing. Procrastination is usually an EMOTIONAL RESPONSE to something much larger and not time blindness.

If you believe you are procrastinating, dig deeper and try to find out what it is that is causing it. Some examples of why people might procrastinate are:

  •  We don't feel we are good enough or have enough knowledge. This affects self-esteem and keeps us from moving forward because we are waiting for the right time or waiting to learn more.

  • We fear putting ourselves out there for fear of ridicule or saying the wrong thing.

  • Fear of failure.

  • Fear of success and added responsibility that you may think you may not be able to handle.

  • Perfectionsim. Your projects are never good enough and you are never ready.

  • Impaired self-regulation. You have a hard time handling the emotions that come up during the creation and execution process, so it's easier to stop and walk away than face the feelings.

  • Instant gratification bias. You are uncomfortable with not seeing immediate results. This is particularly hard for those with ADHD because we look for immediate dopamine hits.

There are so many more reasons, but these are just a few. I'd like to suggest that you buy a notebook that is dedicated ONLY to your business. Write your ideas in here, along with feelings that come up along your journey. Don't forget to also write about your dreams and potential manifestations!
