A woman stands at a crossroads, torn between the familiar stress of her old job and the unknown freedom of a more organic lifestyle. She knows that she can no longer live the lie of hustle culture and succumb to the stresses and inauthentic rules of the corporate world.
She longs to spend more time as her spiritual self, something that has been hard to do over the years because working has sucked it out of her soul. She also knows she needs to bring in money to pay the bills. Yet going back to corporate life feels like a long, slow death.
She longs to spend more time doing things she loves. She wants to travel, attend spiritual retreats, spend more time in nature, read more books, and connect to her inner self. She wants to take time to heal herself and explore new hobbies or develop the ones she has. She wants to leave behind all of the things that have caused her to deviate from her authentic self while forcing herself to work in a world that was not built for her sensitive heart.
What most spiritual people crave is FREEDOM.
Let's be honest. "Freedom" has been stolen from us in the form of lost time. You can bypass this all you want and paint it with rainbows by saying that freedom is within us and that time doesn't exist. I agree with both of those sentiments. However, this higher thinking discounts the very tangible things happening in front of us. Spiritual people know this is all false control, and so I applaud anyone who is trying to get out of it's grasp by creating their own reality and their own rules.
Let's get even more honest. Not everyone has a partner who is bringing home the bacon. Most households are forced to be two-income households now. Not everyone has an inheritance, alimony, military money, retirement, or other money coming in that allows them to live life from a place of choice rather than absolute survival. The sooner we accept this, the sooner we can open our hearts to those who seek to work in a way that is meaningful to them without shaming them in the process.
I would rather help than shame. If my services can help a woman stay home with her children, I'll do it. If my services can help someone have more time to spend in the forest, I'll do it. If my services will help a man spend more time with his meditation practice, I'll do it. If my business allows me to stay out of the corporate culture while I can instead help spiritual people who have something positive to give to the world, I'll do it. If it also gives me more freedom so that I can be more authentically myself too, I will do it. Shame is not allowed here.
Somewhere in the middle is the truth ... where we can continue to work and still be authentic in our spiritual businesses. We can still charge what we need to to be abundant and still work from a place of love and care. Black-and-white thinking is rigid and as I am learning, I never find answers there.
